Frédéric Bélot advises, assists, and represents a man accused of being a member of the Ragnar Locker cybercriminal group. He was released after several months in detention, having claimed his innocence since his arrest.
In the fall of 2023, a man of Russian origin suspected of being a “key member” of the Ragnar Locker cybercriminal group was arrested in Paris and charged after four days of police custody.
As a reminder, the Ragnar Locker group was identified by the courts in 2019 due to ransomware attacks targeting large companies likely to pay ransoms ranging from $5 million to $70 million. A source close to the case revealed to the press that more than 160 companies worldwide had been victims, including 10 companies in France.
On October 20, 2023, the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced the news of the arrest to the media. The newspaper Le Monde published two articles on the matter, and Europol stated in an official press release that the network’s “key target” had been arrested (Ragnar-locker-ransomware-gang-taken-down-international-police-swoop), as did the Gendarmerie (Les-investigations-des-gendarmes-cyber-portent-un-coup-d-arret-aux-pillages-de-ragnar).
Mr. Frédéric Bélot and his team, after several months of defending the accused, finally succeeded in securing his release.
The firm is proud of this excellent decision and is honored by the trust placed in it by the client during these long months of detention.
