“Yukos : the firm that shook up Shearman & Sterling”

“In the Yukos case, which opposes the shareholders of the former oil company to the Russian Federation – a French law firm, Bélot Malan and Partners, has gained the upper hand on the American law firm Shearman & Sterling and its flagship lawyer Emmanuel Gaillard. Bélot Malan defended the main Russian satellite operator, Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC).

Following an order made on  November 23, 2016 by the Paris Court of Appeal, the company will be able to recover 480 million euros claimed from Eutelsat for commercial services and dividends (RSCC owns 3% of Eutelsat) . These sums had been seized following the judgment of the Hague Arbitration Tribunal which ordered in 2014 the Russian Federation to pay Yukos shareholders the enormous sum of $ 50 billion.”(Article published on November 25, 2016 in Challenges.fr).
